Vending Machine Security
How VTM vending machines protect your product, your machine, and your payments
Security on an unattended vending machine has to work in four places: the cabinet itself, the controls you use from anywhere, the software running behind the machine, and the card reader taking payments. Here is how VTM covers each one.
At the machine
Physical anti-theft and anti-tampering hardware.
Anti-theft plate in the exit chute
VTM machines include an anti-theft plate that makes it difficult for anyone to reach up through the exit chute and grab product from the aisles.
Uniquely keyed barrel locks
Barrel locks can be uniquely keyed, so no two of your machines need to share the same key.
Electronic lock on the Mega Wall 2.0
The Mega Wall 2.0 adds a password-protected electronic lock alongside its standard key lock. The password is managed per machine in Machine Settings on the VTM Vending Portal.
From anywhere
Remote controls in the VTM Vending Portal.
Shut the machine off remotely
If something looks wrong at a location, you can turn the machine off without driving to it.
Disable individual aisles
Take a single aisle out of service, such as one that has been tampered with or holds product you need to pull, while the rest of the machine keeps selling.
Change the admin password remotely
Update the machine's admin password from the portal, for example when an employee or route driver who had access leaves.
In the cloud
Where your machine data lives.
US-hosted software on AWS
VTM software is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United States, with standard security and redundancy practices in place.
At the card reader
Payments handled by Nayax.
Encrypted card payments
Every VTM machine ships with a Nayax VPOS Touch card reader, which encrypts card data using PCI-compliant AES/DES encryption. Learn more about credit card processing on VTM machines.
Independent payment connection
The card reader connects through its own Nayax-provided SIM card, separate from the machine's Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
Vending machine security FAQs
How do VTM vending machines prevent theft?
VTM machines include an anti-theft plate in the exit chute that makes it difficult to reach up and grab product, and barrel locks that can be uniquely keyed so no two machines share a key. The Mega Wall 2.0 also has a password-protected electronic lock alongside its standard key lock.
Can I shut off my vending machine remotely?
Yes. You can turn your machine off remotely from the VTM Vending Portal, so you can respond to a problem at a location without being on site.
Can I disable one aisle without shutting down the whole machine?
Yes. Individual aisles can be disabled remotely, so the rest of the machine keeps selling while one aisle is out of service.
Can I change my machine's admin password remotely?
Yes. The admin password can be changed remotely, which lets you cut off access right away when someone who had it no longer needs it.
Where is VTM's vending machine software hosted?
VTM software is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United States, with standard security and redundancy practices in place.
Are card payments on VTM vending machines encrypted?
Yes. Payments run through the Nayax VPOS Touch card reader included with every VTM machine, which uses PCI-compliant AES/DES encryption. The reader also has its own Nayax-provided SIM card, independent of the machine's Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
