Operator Questions

Pokémon Vending Machine FAQ

What product sizes fit, and can it vend anything besides Pokémon packs?

The standard 22mm coils dispense any sealed standard Pokémon booster pack inside a top-loader case. Larger coils — sold separately — handle bigger product: 35mm for sleeved packs, and 50mm or 55mm for mini-tins, Elite Trainer Boxes, and oversized special editions. A coil swap also lets the same machine vend other trading cards, candy, snacks, or small electronics.

Do I need a license to run a Pokémon vending machine?

No. Sealed Pokémon product is an unregulated consumer good — no age verification, no special license, no franchise approval. Under the U.S. First Sale Doctrine, anyone who lawfully buys a trademarked product can resell it through any legal retail channel without the brand's permission, the same way every retailer does. That makes Pokémon vending far simpler to run than age-restricted categories like vape or alcohol.

How much money does a Pokémon vending machine make?

Operators typically net $7 to $9 in profit per booster pack, and a machine averages about 3.4 pack sales per day — above $1,000 in monthly profit at a solid location. Operators in higher-traffic spots see $1,400 to $2,800. Location quality and pricing are the variables: weaker spots earn less, high-foot-traffic spots earn more.

Do people really pay $20 for a Pokémon pack?

Yes. Contrary to common belief, the demand is real. Across the VTM operator network, booster packs are averaging over $19 each. In May 2026, VTM machines vended more than 4,000 Pokémon booster packs at an average price just over $19. Sealed product sells out at retail, the category is a multi-billion-dollar market, and at high-foot-traffic locations the impulse buy closes the sale.

How much should I vend Pokémon packs for?

A good rule of thumb is a $7 to $9 markup per pack. VTM uses a simple two-tier formula:

Packs under $35 wholesale Vend = (cost × 1.25) + $5 A 25% markup plus a flat $5. Keeps everyday sets aggressively priced while protecting a healthy dollar margin on even the cheapest packs.
Packs $35 and up wholesale Vend = (cost × 1.15) + $5 A 15% markup plus the flat $5. The lower percentage reins in high-ticket sealed packs so the ticket stays sane while the dollar margin stays strong.
Round the result up to the nearest $0.50.

Where do I source booster packs at wholesale?

VTM reserves wholesale booster pack supply for operators who own a VTM machine — packs around $10 each, without fighting for retail allocations. It's a dedicated pipeline built so you can keep machines stocked at margins that work. Shop the operator booster pack catalog →

Why won't The Pokémon Company sell machines to independents?

The Pokémon Company International doesn't sell vending machines, doesn't franchise the category, and doesn't distribute hardware to independents. The official units in airports and malls are six-figure imports built around custom elevator mechanisms and proprietary software — out of reach for almost anyone. VTM was built specifically to open the category to independent operators.

Where's the best place to put a Pokémon vending machine?

High-foot-traffic spots with a mix of impulse buyers and collectors. Gas stations, convenience stores, arcades, bowling alleys, family entertainment centers, hobby shops, and mall kiosks all perform well. Locations with families and younger customers tend to outperform standard c-stores. The two things that matter most: owner buy-in and steady foot traffic.

Can I manage the machine remotely?

Yes. VTM software gives you real-time sales, inventory, and pricing control from any iOS or Android device. Adjust prices, see which slots are running low, pull revenue reports, and track multiple locations without ever visiting a machine.

What payment methods does the machine accept, and what are the fees?

Every machine ships with Nayax VPOS Touch, which takes credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and tap-to-pay. Processing runs 3.5% plus $0.20 per transaction, plus a $7.95 monthly Nayax fee, with funds deposited straight to your bank. You get real-time reporting through both Nayax and VTM software.

What does it cost to run a machine each month?

Year one, the VTM software fee is $0. Starting month 13 it's $29 per machine per month. On top of that you'll typically pay a location commission (around 10% of revenue), payment processing (3.5% + $0.20 per transaction plus the $7.95 monthly Nayax fee), and minimal electricity. You own the machine outright.
